Ants
When you think about ants, consider the unsanitary paths they travel before ending up in your home—on your countertops, in your cupboards, and near your food. That’s why it’s important to take steps to keep them away.
Ants are one of the most common pests in Perth homes and gardens. While a single ant may not seem like a big deal, they live in highly organised colonies that can range from hundreds to hundreds of thousands. If you’re seeing regular trails of ants inside your home, it usually means there’s a nest close by.
Ants are extremely resilient and resourceful:
Colony structure – Ants live in nests with a queen (or queens), workers, and soldiers. The queen’s only role is to lay eggs, so unless the queen is eliminated, the colony will continue to grow.
Multiple nests – Some species have satellite nests, which means treating just one nest isn’t enough.
Food sources – Ants eat a wide range of things, from sweet foods and crumbs to pet food, fats, and even dead insects.
Entry points – They can get into your home through the smallest cracks, gaps, and openings, especially around doors, windows, and plumbing.
Ant infestations are not just annoying; they can contaminate food, damage packaging, and even cause structural damage in some cases (for example, black ants nesting in pavers or garden areas).
One thing to know: traditional sprays for cockroaches and spiders don’t work on ants. Ants are clever. If they sense a treated area, they simply close off that entry point and create a new one somewhere else.
At Coopers Pest Solutions, our ant treatments don’t just get rid of the ants you see on the surface. We target the whole nest, including the queen, so the problem is solved properly.
What can you do?
While professional treatment is the only way to eliminate the colony and queen, there are steps you can take to reduce ant problems and help prevent reinfestations:
Inside the Home
Wipe down benches, floors, and tables regularly to remove food residue.
Clean up spills immediately, especially sugary drinks.
Store all food in sealed, pest-proof containers (including pet food).
Empty rubbish bins daily and keep lids tightly closed.
Vacuum regularly, especially around skirting boards and under furniture.
Wash pet bowls often and don’t leave leftover food sitting out.
Outside the Home
Keep rubbish bins closed with sealed lids.
Trim back trees and shrubs that touch the house (ants often use them as bridges).
Seal cracks and gaps around doors, windows, and foundations.
Keep gutters and drains clear of leaf litter and debris.
Watch for ant nests or mounds in the lawn, pavers, or garden beds and note where ants are trailing from.
Avoid leaving pet food or water bowls outside overnight.
By keeping your home clean and reducing food and water sources, you make it harder for ants to thrive. This won’t remove the colony, but it will greatly reduce the chances of a large infestation taking hold between professional treatments..
What we can do!
Our ant treatments are designed to stop ants at the source—not just the surface.
Internal treatment:
We use low-toxic ant baits placed directly in areas where ants are active. The ants carry the bait back to their nest and share it with the colony, which eliminates the queen and the entire nest.
External treatment:
We apply a thorough treatment around the outside of your home using professional-grade sprays and/or granules. This creates a protective barrier and works in the same way as the baits—ants unknowingly carry the product back to their nest, spreading it through the colony.
The big advantage is that no matter where the nest is located—even if it’s hidden underground or in walls—the ants do the work of taking the treatment back to it.
What to expect after a treatment
You may still see ants for a short period after treatment. This is a good sign—the ants are carrying the product back to their nest.
Within 7–14 days, activity should noticeably reduce as the colony collapses.
For large or multiple nests, a follow-up treatment may be recommended to ensure the queen and colony are fully eradicated.
